About the Artist
Thirishaa Selvaraj (b. 2003, Malaysia) uses elements like sarees, rice powder, and hair to connect shared experiences amongst Indian women and heal her relationship with her mother. Her artwork "Kattu" was displayed at the Lasalle Show (2023), and she contributed a photo essay to Praxis Press (2022-2023). Thirishaa also partnered with the Singapore Art Museum and the Association of the Visually Handicapped to create The Touch Collection in 2023, making art accessible to people regardless of their disabilities.
" My works are like a personal diary for me. Except that its on display for everyone to see which is also a part of why I do art , I want people like me to look at my work, relate to it with their own experiences and see that their not alone , that someone has also went through what they have .
It's something very much based on real-life experiences and its also sort of a remembrance for when i'm gone in the future. It is also a way to slowly include my family more into my private life, its been a journey of opening up and being vulnerable with them"
